I photographed 21 year old Aleksa on December 29, 2011. This shoot was all on location, my new favorite way to shoot. I met her at a coffee shop on Haight Street in San Francisco. I walked there from home with a roller suitcase containing my camera equipment and some of my jackets for Aleksa to wear. After a brief talk, we simply started walking around the area looking for interesting photogenic backgrounds.
She was shy and didn’t like an audience, so we couldn’t shoot on Haight Street itself, which was a disappointment. I want to do a shoot right on this colorful street.
Eventually we made our way to Golden Gate Park, at the end of Haight Street. We went into the park and made some great images. We agreed to do a follow on studio shoot as Aleksa said she prefers to be photographed in the studio.
Aleksa had just recently cut her hair. From what I understand, it was around shoulder length, and I was the first to photograph her with her new ultra shoot hair. Aleksa was a pleasure to work with, and these shots are just a sampling of the many more great shots we created, all in about two hours from first meeting to conclusion. I went home and burned the DVD and delivered it to her later in the day.
In the photograph above, Aleksa is wearing my black leather motorcycle jacket from when I was in my 20s. Looks pretty good, don’t you think?
One more shot with Aleksa wearing my black leather motorcycle jacket. I don’t wear this jacket anymore, but I wouldn’t think of donating it or disposing of it. I wore this jacket to so many concerts and night clubs.
I photographed Aleksa with a Canon 5D Mark II camera and a Canon 135mm soft focus lens set to sharp. I used the auto focus capability of the camera, which worked surprisingly well. I generally upload pictures to this site at full camera resolution, which is 21 megapixels. Click on the pictures to see the full size versions, which are huge compared to the versions shown here.
